We all have questions. Hopefully, some of the items below will help answer yours.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do you support taking medication?

A: Our goal is to provide our clients with an alternative method of getting help other than constant medication. We do our best to work with our clients to find the best solution for them. If that solution means a visit to a physician or psychiatrist is necessary, we will refer one to our client. Counseling is intended to work along with medication to get the best results for you – the client. However, we hope and pray that at other times, our clients are able to work through their issues through counseling alone without the help of medication.

Q: How long does counseling usually take?

A: Each client’s situation is different and though our goal is to help resolve issues as quickly as possible for our clients, we are willing to spend as much time as possible working through all aspects of life’s problems and providing in depth biblical guidance and foundation for resolution. The length of any counseling engagement depends on the client.

Q: What kind of certifications and registrations do FCCC’s Counselors have?

  • Members, National Board of Certified Counselors

  • Members, American Association of Christian Counselors (Gary Lynn is a Charter Member)

  • Licensed Practicing Counselors - Tennessee State Board of Professional Counselors

  • Licensed Practicing Counselors - The Texas Department of Health

  • Marriage and Family Therapy

Q: Do you accept insurance?

A: We accept most forms of private, employer, and military insurances. But don’t let the lack of insurance be the reason you don’t get the help you need. It is our goal to provide help regardless of financial circumstances. Please call our office to discuss rates, alternatives, and insurance benefits accepted.

Q: What privacy (confidentiality) will I have?

A: Confidential conversations between a counselor and a client are something that counselors are bound by the statutory and ethical standards of their profession, as well as, HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996). The purpose of confidentiality is to provide a safe environment where a client will freely discuss his problems, without fear that very personal information will be revealed to others. This increases trust and the likelihood that all aspects of a given problem will be brought into the open. Confidentiality then is important for a good counselor-client relationship.

But please know that by law, there are two issues that cannot be kept confidential.

  1. A counselor is legally required to report cases of child and elder abuse.

  2. In cases where a client is an imminent suicide risk or is threatening harm to another person, confidentiality may be broken.

These exceptions are to protect others, or the client s/himself. These are important and necessary exceptions. Any other disclosure of information about one’s counseling requires written permission.

There is another aspect of confidentiality that needs to be mentioned. Besides one’s conversations with a counselor, the very fact that he is receiving counseling is confidential. This is partly because in our society there still exists significant bias and discrimination toward those who seek assistance for mental and/or relationship problems.

Therefore, at Family Christian Counseling Center we respect one’s desire to have the fact that he is coming to us be kept confidential, and we do all that we can to keep it that way. As the body of Christ, we should value personal growth and see Christian Counseling as a possible means to that growth. And as a result reduce the stigma associated with seeing a “counselor”. Our prayer is that this would someday be the case, that there would be no shame in seeking counseling. Rather, that it would be a desirable goal to be one who recognizes his struggles and has the courage to change even if it means seeking the help of a Christian Counselor (Romans 14:13).

Q: How much does it cost?

A: We offer counseling at local market prices to be fair to our counselors and their time. However, we do not want finances to be a hindrance to getting help. It is our goal to provide help regardless of financial circumstances. Please call our office to discuss rates and insurance benefits accepted.
